“The sea is only the embodiment of a

supernatural and wonderful existence.

It is nothing but love and emotion;

it is the ‘Living Infinite...”

― Jules Verne

This is it...my 2023 edition of Jules Verne's 20000 League Under the Sea...Steampunk/ Venetian version.

Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction that incorporates retrofuturistic technology and aesthetics inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the Victorian era or the American "Wild West", where steam power remains in mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.

Steampunk most recognisably features anachronistic technologies or retrofuturistic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them — distinguishing it from Neo-Victorianism — and is likewise rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. Such technologies may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne. Steampunk may also incorporate additional elements from the genres of fantasy, horror, historical fiction, alternate history, or other branches of speculative fiction, making it often a hybrid genre. As a matter of fact, steampunk is influenced by and often adopts the style of the 19th-century scientific romances of Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, Mary Shelley, and Edward S. Ellis's The Steam Man of the Prairies.

There is a small group of costumers in Venice who enjoy combining an element of steampunk into their Venetian mask gear.

The location is the Acqua Alta Libreria - one of the most famous and most beautiful bookstores in the world.… Many famous photographers including Steve McCurry took photos here… It is also here that I created my own style…

It is here where my teacher Florine Houée taught me the basics of photography…where the light is coming from, which parts of the models cannot be photographed, which are the best angles, and how to create drama in photos…

Every year, my old friend Isabelle Rombi and I will do portraits here…her love for fairy tales, books, paintings and all things related to the sea…

Yes, she's one of the models I know from 2014 at my first Venice Carnevale. We have always kept in touch. Isabelle loves the bookstore, and so do I. Over the years, we have been thinking - how to get the ultimate steampunk portrait. Finally, after years of practice, we came up with this shot/ series...
